Runway 2.0: Fusing Fashion and Technology
July 16, 2014 – On Friday, July 11, VLT Kuala Lumpur, award winning independent digital agency, hosted Runway 2.0, the first ever fashion/technology event in Malaysia at POP, Jaya One. The event brought together entrepreneurs, designers, retailers, and marketing professionals from both Malaysia and Singapore for an exciting afternoon which included fashion shows, panel discussions and startup showcases.
Jonathan Wong, from the CEO’s Office department at VLT Kuala Lumpur, founder of Z’NG footwear label, emceed the event. Also in attendance were celebrities such as Carey Ng (Miss Universe Malaysia 2013) and Winnie K (local songstress).
During the panel discussion with Johan Ishak (CEO of MyCreative Ventures), Tang Siew Wai (Country GM of Reebonz Malaysia & UAE), and Giulio Xiloyannis (MD of Zalora Malaysia), the panelists discussed on subjects such as the current shopping trend in Malaysia, the differences between spending online and offline, big data, government initiatives for the fashion industry and the future of fashion retail.
Out of the 4 startup’s that were showcased at the event, 3 were from Singapore namely Metail Asia, Travelshopa, and Ninja Van. Warybee, the only startup from Malaysia, stood out among the rest because of its wearable technology and the crowd was very impressed. Many who turned up at the event commented that they wished to see more Malaysian startup’s in the next edition of Runway 2.0 and we too, are excited to see what Malaysia has to offer for retail and fashion.
Zalia, one of Zalora Malaysia’s private labels opened the show with models sashaying the runway with glamorous Muslimah outfits, while Syomir Izwa closed the event with its elegant modest wear.
