Review: OWL Eyewear

By  |

The other day, I was invited to the grand launch of OWL eyewear’s flagship store in Sunway Pyramid. Prior to this, I’ve not heard about OWL eyewear before but I was curious as eyewear is an important part of my life due to my terrible eyesight. Contact lens and glasses are my daily essentials or else I wouldn’t be able to function as I’ll be left half blind

Upon arrival at the store, I was introduced that it’s not any eyewear store but a concept store with an interesting idea. This is their philosophy:

Yes, I totally agree! Like how we have multiple pairs of sunnies to suit our look and mood, glasses should be the same too. The only reason why I’ve yet to own multiple pairs is because of the price. You see, I need high index lenses because of my terrible eyesight and on top of that, I have astigmatism. I also spend most of my waking hours in front of a digital screen that leads to eye strain and the result of all these is a very hefty price tag every time I need to purchase new glasses in addition to contact lens, which leaves me with one pair of normal boring just functional glasses

But I was so surprised to find out the prices of OWL eyewear ranges between RM169 to RM269 per pair and an additional RM99 for upgrades making them super affordable with high grade lenses and quality frames from Korea

Not only that, the store has a simple, open and easy-to-navigate layout that categorizes the frames based on styles into sections such as Weekender, Executive, Fashionista and Rebel (no guesses to which section I went to first), which are really helpful in guiding the customer to select the design they like

The best part of it all, no more awkward moments going round the store peering into the glass boxes trying to point out the frame you want with a very formal looking store attendant. Instead, they have stylists to advise you on which frames best suit your style or encourage you to step our of your comfort zone and try something new

This creative store layout allows the customer to pick up any design they like and try them on the spot

They’ve also brilliantly installed mirrors at eye level for you to check out how you look or take a quick selfie!

When it comes to selection of design, you’ll be spending as much time there as you would in a clothing store. So many colours, so many shapes and so many different styles! The best part is, they’re super lightweight (even after the lenses are installed), very trendy and extremely hardy

Needless to say, I picked out a pair of my own. The process was super quick and efficient, only takes one hour for them to be ready complete with eye test and adjustment. Especially handy when you have an eyewear emergency

Here’s the comparison between my current (top) boring functional pair and my new OWL pair with bigger frames and prints (something I’ve never owned before!). So long to boring black frames and rimless glasses for me

Now that I’ve got my second pair, I think I’ll venture into the Rebel category for my next. Teehee

Is the price really that cheap or there’s extra charges?
