Going Pink for October
October is a special month for us girls because it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s an annual effort across the world to to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer
Adult women of all ages are encouraged to perform breast self-exams at least once a month. Johns Hopkins Medical center states,
“Forty percent of diagnosed breast cancers are detected by women who feel a lump, so establishing a regular breast self-exam is very important.”
While mammograms can help you to detect cancer before you can feel a lump, breast self-exams help you to be familiar with how your breasts look and feel so you can alert your healthcare professional if there are any changes (Via http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/breast-self-exam)
Here are some of the events and campaigns that are taking place in Malaysia to support this cause:
- The Pink Charity Run 2013 by Pantai Hospital
- Donate RM10 to support National Cancer Society Malaysia
We’ll continue to add more events and campaigns as we uncover more. If you know of any, feel free to drop us a note at admin@ashopaholicsden.com
