Being a celebrity and constantly in the public’s eye requires one to dress fashionably at all times. But these celebrities took fashion beyond what they wear into their own hands and successfully built their fashion empires to call their own

Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham is a fashion designer and style icon. Having first hit the headlines as part of British girl band the Spice Girls in the Nineties and then as the wife of footballer David Beckham, in recent years she has emerged as one of the most unexpectedly serious fashion contenders.

The fashion icon debuted her Victoria Beckham label with a collection of spring dresses at New York Fashion Week in 2008, and the reviews have been consistently strong. Beckham’s designs are known for their confident simplicity and artful use of colour. She ables to take conventional dresses and makes them stand out. As she grows as a designer, the Victoria Beckham look has evolved toward looser silhouettes with softer drapes and longer hemlines because she wants women to have the freedom to be more comfortable as well as beautiful.

Mary-Kate & Ashely Olsen

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, from playing the role of Michelle Tanner in Full House have just been recently announced to be the most successful designers in the world and have had recently won their second CFDA award—the Accessories Designer of the Year Award.

They have 3 successful lines: Olsenboye, a kids fashion line; Elizabeth and James, targeted towards a mid-market; and The Row, a high-end luxury line of cashmere and tailoring. There’s nothing gimmicky about the collections: fabrics are quality, tailoring is sophisticated. And the twins, it is said, are fully responsible for every stage of the design process

Nicole Richie

With a glamorous father like Lionel Richie, it’s no wonder that adopted daughter Nicole cultivated her artistic side with a career in fashion. The starlet had been able to repair her reputation struggles with drug abuse and DUI arrests, and build a successful fashion empire.

In 2008, Richie launched her boho-chic jewelry line, House of Harlow 1960, which has grown to include sunglasses and shoes. After that, Richie added a ready-to-wear collection called Winter Kate, which includes footwear, jewelry, eyewear and handbags. The former reality star regularly wears House of Harlow 1960 jewelry to high-profile events, as well as pieces from her previous fashion line, Winter Kate.

The aesthetic of the womenswear collection is firmly in keeping with Ms Richie’s boho vibe. Pieces include a floaty take on overalls and palazzo pants – both of which come in a loose, khaki silk fabric. There are also embroidered caftan, bohemian dresses, and gold-flecked slip dresses.
